Upneeq for Droopy Eyelids

What is a non surgical way to treat sleepy eyelids or ptosis? Try Upneeq.

Upneeq is a prescription eye drop containing oxymetazoline hydrochloride (0.1%) used to treat acquired blepharoptosis-commonly known as droopy eyelids-in adults. This condition can cause a tired or aged appearance and may interfere with vision. Upneeq offers a non-surgical option to temporarily lift the upper eyelids.

How It Works

Upneeq stimulates the Müller’s muscle in the upper eyelid, causing it to contract. This action raises the eyelid by approximately 1-2 millimeters, typically within 5 to 15 minutes after application. The lifting effect can last up to 6 hours, providing a more alert and refreshed appearance.

Usage

The recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily. Each dose comes in a single-use vial, which should be discarded after use.

Common Side Effects

While most users tolerate Upneeq well, some may experience:

  • Eye redness or irritation
  • Dry eyes
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye pain upon application
  • Headache

Serious side effects are rare but can include increased eye pressure or symptoms of glaucoma. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience significant discomfort or changes in vision.

If you’re considering Upneeq, consult with our office and Dr. Gamble to determine if it’s appropriate for your needs.
